Oral Sedation

For patients who experience moderate to severe dental anxiety, oral conscious sedation may help create a more relaxed and comfortable dental experience.

Sedation Dentistry:

Dr. Akbar is trained in administering oral conscious sedation, often referred to as “sleep dentistry.” Although patients remain awake and responsive, many feel deeply relaxed and may remember very little about the procedure afterward.

Oral sedation may help patients:

• Feel more comfortable during treatment
• Complete longer procedures more easily
• Reduce dental anxiety and fear
• Tolerate multiple treatments in fewer visits

Medications used for oral sedation are prescribed based on your individual treatment needs and medical history. Since sedation medications can cause drowsiness, patients must arrange transportation to and from their appointment.

Before receiving oral sedation, please inform our office of:

• Any medical conditions or breathing disorders
• Current medications or supplements
• Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
• Any history of medication reactions or allergies

For your safety, oral sedation medications should only be taken exactly as prescribed by our office. Mixing sedation medications with alcohol or other sedatives can be dangerous.

It’s also important to let us know if you are taking other medications. There could be possible drug interactions.
